The Benton/Stearns Methamphetamine Coalition started in 2005 as a response to community concern with the growing visibility of methamphetamine use. It started with two community meetings, one in Sauk Rapids and one in Melrose. Out of these meetings come community needs and concerns related to meth, and a work plan for community members interested enough to get involved.
Coalition adopted a brand – CHIP (Citizens Helping to Inform the Public). CHIP was made up of many community members representing recovering addicts, parents, concerned citizens, the medical community, recovery, faith community, youth groups, college/university, law enforcement, educational community, and local government (specifically Public Health.) Some of our activities included developing a resource guide for treatment and recovery, displays at the County Fairs and community events, hosting speakers, providing education to the students through school and community programs, and sponsoring media throughout the community. January 1, 2009 saw transition in the Meth Coalition as the county leadership role was handed over to the community members. Several members still meet informally. The coalition served its purpose to connect the community, the county, law enforcement, and recovery individuals around methamphetamine efforts. This website will continue to serve the St. Cloud Area with resources for individuals and families looking for substance abuse assistance and help. Click Below to download the following PDF's: |
